How to cash out Telegram Stars into real money
The full withdrawal path: the holding period, the minimum balance, Fragment, and turning a TON payout into money in your bank.

Cashing out Telegram Stars is not a single button. It is a sequence with two gates — a holding period and a minimum balance — and a currency conversion at the end that most people forget to price in. Here is the whole path, in order.
What can actually be withdrawn
Telegram splits Stars into two pools that look identical in your balance but behave completely differently:
- Earned Stars — received from tips, gifts, paid posts, channel subscriptions, bot payments or mini app sales. These can be withdrawn.
- Purchased Stars — bought with a card, Apple Pay, Google Play or crypto. These can only be spent inside Telegram. There is no official route back to money, and any service claiming otherwise is not one.
If you have both, Telegram tracks them separately and only offers the earned portion at withdrawal time.
The two gates
- The refund window. Earned Stars are frozen from the date they arrive — around three weeks, by consistent creator report rather than published policy. A buyer who disputes a payment inside it can claw the Stars back, so Telegram will not let them leave.
- 1,000 Stars. The payout minimum. Below it, no withdrawal can be started, no matter how long the Stars have been held. At the current payout rate that is about $13.00 in hand.
The withdrawal itself, step by step
- Open your Stars balance. For a personal account that is Settings → My Stars; for a bot it is @BotFather → your bot → Bot Settings → Payments; for a channel it is the channel’s Statistics → Stars.
- Tap Withdraw. Telegram hands off to Fragment, the marketplace that settles Telegram payouts, and asks you to sign in with the same Telegram account.
- Connect a TON wallet. The wallet built into Telegram works, as do Tonkeeper and MyTonWallet. An exchange deposit address that supports the TON network also works, and saves you a transfer later.
- Confirm the amount. Fragment shows the TON figure it will send, calculated from Telegram’s USD rate of about $0.013 per Star at the TON price in that moment.
- Sign the payout. TON lands in the wallet within a few minutes. The Stars leave your balance immediately.
Turning TON into money in your bank
This is the step where the value you calculated can quietly shrink. Three routes, in descending order of how much you keep:
- A local exchange that lists TON directly. Kraken, OKX, Bybit, WhiteBIT and several regional exchanges will take TON and pay out in local currency. One trade, one withdrawal.
- TON → USDT → local currency. Necessary where TON is not listed against your currency. Two trades instead of one, so two spreads.
- P2P. The only route in markets where exchanges cannot pay out to local rails. Rates are often better than the exchange spread but counterparty risk is real — stay inside the platform’s escrow.
Whichever route you pick, remember the TON price moves while you are moving. Telegram fixes the dollar value; nothing fixes the TON price between the payout and your sale.
What you actually end up with
Take 10,000 earned Stars. Telegram pays $130.00 — 10,000 × its published withdraw rate of $0.013— delivered in TON. That figure is Telegram’s and it is exact. What is not exact is what reaches your bank: the TON network fee is cents, but an exchange trade and a local withdrawal typically cost another 0.5–2% depending on the market, so budget slightly under $130 rather than exactly it. Run your own number on the rate board to see it in your currency.
Tax, briefly and without pretending to be your accountant
Star payouts are income in most jurisdictions, usually at the dollar value on the date of receipt, and the subsequent TON sale can be a separate disposal event. Keep the Fragment payout record and the exchange trade record — the two together are what a tax authority will ask for.
