What BotFather does

BotFather is Telegram's official management bot for creating and configuring bots. It guides developers through registering a bot account, choosing its public name and username, and receiving the API token used by a backend to connect with Telegram's Bot API.

The conversation acts as a control panel for bot identity and platform settings. It does not host application code or replace a developer's server.

Bot setup and configuration

After a bot is created, BotFather can update its profile photo, description, about text, command list, menu button and supported interaction modes. Developers also use it to configure group privacy, inline mode, payments, domains and Mini App entry points when those features apply.

• Create and rename Telegram bot accounts.
• Issue or revoke Bot API tokens.
• Configure commands, profile details and bot capabilities.
• Connect a Main Mini App and manage its launch settings.

Who should use it

BotFather is intended for bot owners and developers. New builders can use its guided menus to create their first bot, while experienced teams return to it whenever they need to change Telegram-side configuration. API tokens should be treated as secrets and stored only in a secure backend environment.
